Those "in the know" have called Croatia "Europe's number one camping destination". The country boasts diverse landscapes, a thousand islands and islets, peninsulas and bays, all making Croatia magnificent and idyllic. Croatia is the place to enjoy days under a clear blue sky and warm nights under a starry sky, as if this country was made just for camping. At the same time, all modern amenities are but a stone's throw away. Of a total of 127 campgrounds in Croatia, nearly 90% are situated along the Adriatic Coast, or on islands, with the remainder located near lakes and rivers.
Dalmatia is the most attractive part of the country due to its nature, combined with its diverse coast. Most campgrounds are located along the shore within easy reach of the beaches. Campground quality, on the whole, corresponds to European criteria, particulary concerning availability of space and facilities. Prices are among the most reasonable in the Mediteranean. It must be mentioned that camping outside of designated camping areas is prohibited.
This rule corresponds to those in other tourist areas in Europe, and there are actually a number of specific exemptions. Croatia was the first European country to open its doors to nudists, in 1953 a very brave step given national and international norms at that time. With 45 years of experience, 20 commercial nudist camps can be found along the coast. Since the economic and political changes of the early 90's, most campgrounds are privately owned, resulting in more diverse and higher quality camping facilities. Commercial competition has been advantageous for campers. Undisturbed nature, reasonably priced services, hospitality, security and an idyllic atmosphere make camping in Croatia the perfect relaxing getaway, a remedy for stress and urban fatigue.
Camping is the most popular form of accomodation in Croatia, 33% of tourists visiting Croatia stay in campgrounds. Campers are always eagerly received as guests on our caost.
Concerning techical facilities in the campgrounds, there are frequently swimming pools, playgrounds, countless sports, organized courses and lessons in riding, sailing, surfing, skiing, scuba diving, mountaineering, as wall as instruction in carving, pottery, etc.
Of particular significance to camping tourists are the 1,777 kilometres of coastline and 1,135 islands, sheer and rugged cliffs, and pine oasesgifts of an undisturbed nature whose beauty, colour and aroma will delight the sences.
